Natural Shampoo Recipes

Create natural shampoos in your kitchen with these simple recipes. Ingredients may be obtained from Mountain Rose Herbs.

Soapwort Shampoo

Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon Soapwort Root
1 Tablespoon Dried Chamomile Flowers
1 Cup boiling water
5 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

Instructions:
Pour the boiling water onto the soapwort and chamomile, cover and leave to infuse until cool. Stir in essential oils.

Herbal Shampoo

Ingredients:
4 oz of nettles, calendula & rosemary combined
1 1/4 cup boiling water
2 1/2 T of liquid castille soap
1 t jojoba or virgin coconut oil
2 drops geranium and 2 drops carrotseed essential oil
10 drops grapefruit seed extract
Instructions:
Steep the herbs in the boiling water for 20 minutes and then strain. Add the jojoba or virgin coconut oil and the castille to the tea and stir well. Once cool, add the essential oils and bottle. Add 10 drops grapefruit seed extract.

Sunshine Shampoo for Blonde Hair

Ingredients:
1/4 cup liquid Castile Soap
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon lemon zest
Instructions:
Mix together all the ingredients and heat in the microwave on high for 1 to 2 minutes until it is hot but not boiling. Cool the mixture completely and strain to remove the lemon zest. Store in a bottle. Shampoo as you normally would. Rinse well with cool water.

Wonder of the Desert Shampoo for Dry Hair

Ingredients:
1/4 cup liquid Castile Soap
1/4 cup aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon glycerin
1/4 teaspoon avocado oil or other light vegetable oil
Instructions:
Mix together all the ingredients. Store in a bottle and always shake well before using. Apply to hair and allow to sit for a few mintues. Rinse well with cool water.

Natural Shampoo for Normal Hair

Ingredients:
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup liquid Castile Soap
1/2 teaspoon sunflower or other light vegetable oil
Instructions:
Mix together all the ingredients. Store in a bottle. Use as you would any shampoo, rinse well.

Chamomile Shampoo

Ingredients:
6 chamomile tea bags
4 tablespoons pure soap flakes
1 1/2 tablespoons glycerin
Instructions:
Steep the teabags in 1 1/2 cups of boiled water for 20 minutes. Remove the tea bags and discard. Add the soap flakes to the tea and let stand until the soap softens. Stir in glycerin until well blended. Keep in a dark, cool place in a sealed bottle.

Dandruff Shampoo

Ingredients:
1/4 cup shampoo base of your choice without conditioner
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons apple juice
1/2 teaspoon rum extract
6 finely ground cloves
Instructions:
In a blender, mix all ingredients on low for 30 seconds. Wet the hair with warm water and shampoo the mixture into the hair well. Rinse with warm water. Makes 1/4 cup. Cover and refrigerate. Discard after 3 days!

Hi, I would love a suggestion of a natural shampoo I can make, that works with hard water?! I have tried all of them and the hard water makes them not work so far... I get a grey scaly residue on my hair.
